Week three

Our group is doing well, and we are ready to build. As said before, we will be building a solar still. I will include pictures of the solar still as we are building it. We all are doing great turning in our assignments, so no one has to be pulled out of the group. That is good because if someone were pulled, we would have to do a lot more work. I am ready and excited to start building. Our group is continuing to work, and we are figuring out problems that we didn’t see, thanks to Mr. Verkaik. We are excited to start.
Something we are waiting on, though is the materials we are going to use. Mr. Verkaik is going to the store to get wood and other things that we need, such as tools. We figured out new ways to modify the solar still, and we are pretty sure that it will work, but we are not absolutely sure. We are all working hard and are sure to work harder when we get the materials, which will come latest by monday. I think that this is really fun and a good experience. I never have learned this much about the geography and climate in Africa, and am glad to help them with clean water. This is a serious problem. People were crying when the watched and read Anne Frank. That was one person. Millions out there are dying of lack of clean water. We need to fix it.
On a happier note, for Current Events in Africa that I have to do, we found that toilet/shower water can be recycled into clean water. That means that we may be able to purify dirty toilet or shower water, but it would be hard. If we had to do that, I would go with shower or bath water because it is cleaner. The bathwater is called  “grey” water, while toilet water is called “black” water. Another few articles that I read is about how places in Africa site on a “vast reservoir” of clean water. There are other ideas that we could incorporate into our solar still, but we will stick to the basics. I just can’t believe how most would pick gatorade or pop over water, while people in Africa would drink about anything to stay alive. Remember this week how many people are dying over dirty water. Just think about it when you drink pretty much whatever you want.

  1. It is true that we are learning a lot about the climate over there. Jacob I never knew that there was a different way to filter the water. I would also go with the bath water. I guess keeping the project simple will make it easier to build. At least you have great support in the idea. I really excited that it will work and create healthy water. That way all of those people are not suffering any more. Hopefully, the supplies will come in time to build the system. I can not wait for this to happen.
